All models included age (years), sex (whole cohort), dialect (Hokkien or Cantonese), year of baseline interview (1993-1995, 1996-1998), educational level (none, primary, secondary, or higher), moderate physical activity (<0.5, 0.5-3.9, or โฅ4 hours/week), alcohol consumption (none, monthly, weekly, or daily), self-reported history of hypertension, diabetes mellitus, stroke, and coronary heart disease, and dietary intakes of red meat, poultry, fish and shellfish, dairy products, soy foods, nonsoy legumes, fruit, and vegetables (all in quartiles).
